York County Deeds, Orders, and Wills Book 12--Indentures 24 November 1702 Mary Banks a Mallatto & servant to Martin Goodwin Did this Day in Court bind over her Daughter Hanah Banks a Mallato unto mr. Peter Goodwin wth him to Dwell and serve untill shee Attain unto the Age of twenty one Years And it is Ordered that he the said Peter Goodwin see the Child Baptized into ye Christian faith (as soon as shee comes to Matturity) to teach or Cause to be taught her ye Creed ye Lords Prayer & the tenne Comandments in the Vulgar tongue if shee be capable to Attaine unto the same And 'tis further Ordered that at the End or Expiration or the said time of twenty one Years to pay his said servant Hanah Banks three Barrels of Indian Corne and Cloathing according to Law Source: York County Deeds, Orders, and Wills (12) 67. 24 February 1702/3 Mrs. Sarah Starkey Executrix of mr. Peter Starky Deced making Information to this Court that Anne Wimball servant to ye Informant had a Mallatto Bastard born of her body & making humble suit that such Measure might be taken therein as by ye sixteenth Act of Assem bly in the Written Law Entitled an Act for Suppressing out Lying Slaves Dated at James City Aprill ye sixteenth 1691 is prescribed on wch. Elisabeth hath and by these prsents doth bind and put herselfe an Apprentice and servant to the sd. John to serve him or his Assigns in the plantation of Virginia beyond the seas for the space of five years next Ensuing the ari[v]al [of the] said servant in the sd plantation hereby Covenant well and truly to serve her sd.
